The 1-Day Intensive is an exciting opportunity to study with Longview Ballet Theatre alumi, Lexi and Colby Johnston. Both women trained under LBT Artistic Director Pat George Mitchell for twelve years before continuing at North Carolina School for the Arts. Take an individual class or all four.
Open to Intermediate/Advanced Level dancers, ages 11-18. Dancers under 11 may get special permission to attend by contacting Artistic Director Pat George Mitchell.

Class Information and Descriptions:
Dancers may wear any color leotard. Pink tights. Ballet shoes and Pointe. Ballet shoes or Jazz shoes may be worn for the Jazz and Contemporary classes. Hair pulled back, preferably in a bun.

Ballet Technique - Lexi Johnston teaches a class focused on building a dancer's strength, coordination, precision and artistry through barre and center combinations. All positions, exercises and terminology will be Lexi thoroughly explains all position, exercises and terminology which gives each dancer the tools to warm up the body, focus on improving technique and flexibility, and most importantly have fun!

Pointe/Variations - Lexi Johnston focuses this class specifically on building ankle strength, balance, control and coordination on pointe. The class may be taken in flat shoes if the dancer is not yet on pointe, but wants to further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to go on pointe. The class will include pointe exercises at the barre and in the center. During second half of the class, Lexi teaches a classical variation that she has performed. This allows the student the opportunity to apply their technique and a classical variation to their own artistry, while being coached on performance quality and execution.

Jazz Technique - Colby Johnston teaches a dynamic class that begins with a warm-up including a series of exercises including stretching, isolations and contractions. The class continues with exercises that use weight change, suspension, and style.. Basic techniques like spotting for turns, leaps and extension are also taught. Dancers are encouraged to add their own personality to make each step unique and fun.

Contemporary - Colby Johnston teaches a combination that utilizes strong movement in space and musicality. The dancers will be reminded of their alignment as well has how they are energetically executing the movements. The dancers will be challenged to add their own interpretation of how they want to present the movement to add depth and performance quality.
